The other day, I came across an email a colleague had sent me this time last year. In it he said "I hope next year is better than 2020".

As I stopped to think about this, I realised that this year has been "better". We are no longer the pandemic new kids on the block. With vaccines and testing we have tools to keep us all safe, which we didn't really have a year ago.

We all have our particular coping mechanisms and yoga is great for keeping us balanced, literally and figuratively. It gives us a structure and rhythm to our weeks/ months - no matter what "Level" we're in.

Our practice comes down to Ekam (1) inhale, dvi (2) exhale, trini (3) inhale, cetvari (4) exhale... It's a grounding force in amongst all of the noise.

I've been fortunate enough to start teaching regularly with an amazing group of people at Shotts Leisure Centre. It's physically safe and together we've seen our practice grow over the months since we started back up in May.

Collectively we have postures that we love (Camel/ Ustrasana) and those that we're not so keen on, but we know are good for us (Boat/ Navasana). We've had fun with our "rolly-polly" postures like Supta Konasana.

We've also been able to celebrate each others' successes when someone finds a way to deepen a particular pose. We all cheer when someone manages to bind in Marichyasana, although, still not me!

On reflection 2021 has definitely been "better" than last year. Who knows what the new year will bring us. What I do know is that we're a resilient bunch and - we got this.

Have a fantastic Christmas and peaceful New Year!
