My last post was 17 March 2020 - life feels even more alien than it did a couple of weeks ago. Everyone has experienced an extreme change in circumstances, financially, logistically in working from home, socially. As one of my neighbour's said (we were socially distant at the time), it's affecting areas of life that you really wouldn't expect.
One of the most challenging aspects is the sheer pace and breadth of the change. Undoubtedly there's more to come.
Yet, we humans are innovative. We can always find an alternative way of doing things. One of my personal mottos is Proceed Until Apprehended and most people I know have been trying to do just that.
There's now loads of live and recorded yoga classes online (I've collated some links on my Facebook Page) and we have time to dedicate to our self-practice. When I hear people say that they're going to turn into couch-potatoes if they self-isolate for too long, I think that it absolutely doesn't have to be like that.
Staying in our homes gives us so many opportunities to learn stillness, focus, resilience. It gives us a chance to take a breather from the overwhelming busy-ness of our lives. Of course we have a chance to dedicate ourselves to our yoga practice, at whatever level of expertise that may be.
I've started running online yoga classes at work during lunchtime and it's much more popular than I could have imagined. One person, who's never done yoga before, joins every day. Other people have joined, who I've never met before. My Yoga Tribe has evolved before my eyes, literally within a few days. I'm honoured and humbled that in some small way I can be of service by bringing yoga to people in these difficult times.
Those of us who have been practicing for a while, know that yoga is key to us staying centered as this pandemic rages among us. I saw this great quote from Andrea Lutz the other day on Facebook, which sums it up nicely:
"Now all the years of practice are paying off. These are the times we practice for. These are the times where we need it most. Where we realise how much more the practice is than a physical exercise."
For those of you new to yoga, you can look at some of the resources I've created to get you going, or you can sit quietly on the floor and just breath.
Stay safe, stay well and keep connected!
