So, we're still in lock-down. However, we can stay positive and count our blessings. Things are slowly getting back to normal, but there's a long way to go yet. One of the constants for me (and a lot of other people) at the moment is yoga, and I'm so grateful for this.
For me, I find it trying when I'm not achieving anything. After several weeks in lock-down, what I'd normally be achieving isn't happening. However, success can be found in other places. For example, exercising regularly, eating a bit healthier, taking an online workshop/ course. In my case, it's also about keeping centered and balanced, which I achieve through regular yoga practice.
I've been on my mat almost every day since lock-down. Deepening postures, examining those I find difficult in greater detail. Whilst yoga is absolutely not about performing the perfect pose, seeing a progression in individual postures, and the sequence over all, does lead to a sense of well-being and achievement.
At its highest level, yoga is about connecting the movement of the body, with the breath to manage the mind. Being able to stay connected with yourself, and in control in these challenging times is priceless. Controlling body, breath and mind is also key to working with some of the tougher yoga postures.
In these difficult times, when all else fails, maybe we should just focus on our breath.
To quote Thich Nhat Hanh:
"Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts. Whenever your mind becomes scattered, use your breath as the means to take hold of your mind again."
