Yoga is for everyone

In the past couple of months I've been privileged to participate in and teach yoga classes in my local community. Some of these have been in gyms and and others at grass-roots in a new community yoga space.
Some people are approaching yoga as a compliment to an existing fitness regime. For others, yoga is offering a lifestyle change and a path to being healthier. I'm used to practicing in a yoga studio and/ or with people who are committed to a strong, regular yoga practice. Therefore it's been really refreshing for me to join in with others practicing in a different place, with potentially different goals than I have.
It's all yoga. Yoga isn't about being in a particular defined space. It's not about the type of postures you do. You don't have to chant, if that's not your thing. Here's a secret, you don't even have to wear expensive yoga pants!
All you have to do is roll out your mat, move and breath. Yoga is a journey, each posture a step on the path.
What I am passionate about, is that everyone is given the opportunity to take part in a yoga class. Too often we see pictures of young, thin, extremely flexible people doing yoga. Regular people (like me) also do yoga. Not the wild postures you might see on Instagram though, but postures that let you work towards more flexibility, strength, calmness - and ultimately joy.
Yoga is about being the best you can be. There's always a post-yoga "glow", where we really feel good about ourselves. Then we take whatever we have learned and apply it in our off-mat world.
